Dear Tyler,

Thanks for the good wishes and support. Ecuador is certainly a beautiful country with wonderful people. That includes the medical communities of its major cities, which--unfortunately--we've seen a bit more of than we might have preferred. I've heard from many of the folks who followed Rick's and Hipshot's adventures in the old days, and I'm humbled and deeply grateful.

Muchisimas gracias,

Stan

May God bless and heal you, Stan.
I grew up reading your comic when I lived on a ranch near Sheridan, Wyoming. My son has lived in Quito for six years and married an Ecuatorian woman there.

Be comforted with the goodness and love of the Lord himself.

Dear Sunny,
Thank you for your prayers and for your support. If you've had experience with cancer--and if you're a friend of Taylor and Samara--I know you're a person of faith. While our time here in Ecuador seems to have had more than our share of medical problems, we live in an excellent community of hospitals and doctors.
I'm now being treated at a cancer center (SOLCA) that is considered the best in Ecuador, and am grateful to God for placing us in such good hands. Again, my thanks, and best regards,

Dear Lyndes, I am a follower and friend of Taylor and Samara on fb, and just found your new post. I will be in prayer for Stan for recovery from this cancer tumor, and that it does not spread. My husband had much cancer problems during his life so I relate. I pray the Lord will also give you many more enjoyable years together in your new country. May you be blessed!

Thanks, Todd. Butte is not only a favorite place of mine in Montana, it's a place where Rick O'Shay and Hipshot were loved and appreciated. As you may know, I've been a full-time western novelist since 1995 and have nine published novels out, available through Amazon, Alibris, and on Kindle. Also as audiobooks through Books In Motion. The most recent is THE BIG OPEN, set in eastern Montana in 1889, but the one before that is set in Butte the previous year, and is titled TO KILL A COPPER KING. Kind of my love letter to Butte, it features a plot to assassinate Marcus Daly. Available at the previously mentioned places, and at BOOKS & BOOKS in Butte. Again, thanks for writing. I've retired to Cuenca, Ecuador with my wife Lynda, but will be back in Montana at least once or twice a year. Best Regards!

Thanks, Ted. I appreciate the info regarding "Hangtown." I hadn't heard about the 1870 NP survey map, but had read about Arnett's death grip. History never ceases to interest me.

Best Regards,

Great drawing Stan!
The Sheriff, James Stuart, reported that Arnett gripped his cards so tightly in one hand, and his gun in the other, that they could not pry them loose, so he had to be buried with them!
The miners' court acquitted one of the surviving card sharps, and convicted and hanged the other. Some thought the penalty excessive, and the name "Hangtown" was "hung" onto American Fork, where it shows up on the 1870 Northern Pacific RR survey map.

I'm honored by your reply, sir! I'll be looking for those books. I believe Barnes and Noble sells them, but not on their e-reader, the Nook, which is what I have.

Wil you continue the adventures of Rick and Hipshot?
